Begrenzte Daten deuten darauf hin, dass die orale Bioverfügbarkeit von mycophenolsäure (MPA) kann vermindert werden durch gleichzeitige Einnahme von Eisen-Präparaten. Der Mechanismus der Interaktion ist nicht erwiesen, und die verfügbaren Daten sind widersprüchlich. In einer frühen Studie mit sieben gesunden Probanden, Verabreichung von 1 G mycophenolat mofetil (MMF) mit einem einzigen 1050 mg-Dosis von retard-Eisensulfat (entspricht 210 mg elementarem Eisen) verringerte mittlere MPA peak-plasma-Konzentration (Cmax) und systemische Exposition (AUC) von 94% und 91%, beziehungsweise, im Vergleich zur Gabe von MMF allein. Jedoch, mehrere nachfolgende Studien, darunter auch einige durchgeführt, in der Nieren-Transplantations-Patienten, berichteten keine signifikanten Veränderungen in der MPA-Pharmakokinetik bei coadministration mit Eisen gleichzeitig oder bis zu vier Stunden auseinander. Die Gründe für die Diskrepanz sind nicht bestimmt worden. In-vitro-gab es keine Hinweise auf Komplexbildung zwischen Eisen und MMF oder MPA. Keine Vorkehrungen notwendig werden, um zu vermeiden, mögliche Wechselwirkungen; allerdings kann es ratsam sein, zu überwachen, pharmakologische Reaktion und Blut eng, wenn ein Eisen-Produkt Hinzugefügt wird stabilisiert mycophenolat-Therapie.
